For the seventh consecutive year, Organizers of the "Women go tech" program are inviting women in Lithuania to start and accelerate their careers in IT and Engineering. We are proud to participate in the program and to have Adformers volunteer as mentors to help women navigate their career. Let's meet some of the mentors!

I have been a WGT mentee myself and I felt that it was time to give back. While participating in a program I have learned a lot about project management, LEAN, and the IT ecosystem in general. Now that I have gained enough experience in IT project management and have developed my mentoring skills, I wanted to put these skills into action.

This program helps building self-confidence and self-awareness. I find these qualities important for both professional and personal development because in tech you need to able to make bold moves but also accept the mistakes and never stop learning.

In my experience, I’ve noticed that women are detail oriented and don’t lose focus on results. I also believe that women can be more effective communicators and tend to care about people deeply. All of these qualities have been found as critical in technology and especially if you want to become a leader in tech company.

I have decided to become a mentor at WGT since I love sharing my experience, teaching others, and watching them grow. The most important thing for mentees during the program is to gain confidence — that’s when we, as mentors, come with a helping hand.

At the beginning, career paths can feel hazy and intimidating and the idea is that some of that fog starts to lift during the program. I do think that in the technology field it is most important to be a keen learner and a good communicator. Everything else is learned.

Being a mentor, I want to encourage others to try to join the IT field. It can be very intimidating at first, but it is interesting, challenging, and fun to work as an IT specialist. Also, I want to break the stereotypes that there is no place for women in IT. That is simply not true.

What matters is to never stop learning and taking on challenges, even if it scares you. Technologies are changing all the time and we have to be able to understand it and use it. Also, soft skills are very important — the ability to work in a team, ask for help, express your thoughts, and show leadership when needed.

One of the bonuses in IT is that there are quite a lot of specialties to choose from. In this case you can try a lot of different positions until you find one that suits you best. For example — if you realize that you do not really enjoy coding, maybe you would be a great product manager? Also, there is no need to finish 12 years of university or have a fancy degree to be a great professional. These might be a good base for you, but joining online courses and practicing are enough to gather the knowledge that you will need at work. And lastly, it never gets boring — you have to learn something new every single day.

I know myself how difficult it is to switch career paths and that it takes courage, resilience and persistence. And this path is definitely better when there is someone to support or a good source of knowledge along the way. That is why I have decided to become a mentor.

Since technologies are constantly changing and improving, it is important to keep up and to be willing to constantly learn in order to be successful. So, genuine interest and motivation are key when joining a program like WGT.

One of the great advantages of a career in technology is the wide range of opportunities. This is why programs like WGT are so awesome because they offer a great access point to a career path in tech.

I have worked in the IT sector for a while now, and honestly, there is so much "old news" in society. Like what we do all day, every day, who are we and how we are. I chose to be a WGT mentor to disperse it and inspire more women to flourish our diversity in IT.

This program can accelerate, simply self-confidence in mentees' areas of expertise. Sharing our experiences and learning from each other's wins and mistakes provides more experience.

The technology field is a "bullet train on expedition" - it is fast-changing and curiosity-driven, so that is the key factors you need for success — be curious, adventurous, and agile!

Team Lead, Project Management

I am a big supporter of the Women Go Tech initiative and its social cause. Therefore, participating in this program was a no-brainer. In fact, it is my second year with the program! I take great joy in mentoring and consider it a privilege to witness the personal transformation of the mentee. I also have the necessary knowledge and insight to help my mentee find her way in IT project management. Having said that, mentoring is not a one-sided transaction. I see it as a great way to strengthen my own knowledge, coaching abilities, and build meaningful relationships.

This program is perfect for women who are determined to enter the tech field but do not know where to start. Women Go Tech will help them realize how crucial community and mentorship is in building a successful career. You will always need people who can cheer you on when the chips are down, someone to relate to and exchange experiences with. This program is also a great way to validate whether you really see yourself in tech. If so, it will help you gain the skills, network, and opportunities that could open doors to this industry.

Historically, women have had more difficulties in establishing themselves in tech. Gender bias, unequal opportunities compared to men, lack of female role models were one of the many obstacles in our way. Change takes time, but these trends are surely changing. What is more important now is for women to overcome their own mental barriers and the old-fashioned notion that there is no place for women in tech. There is plenty of space for everyone!
