Ad Tech Personality of the Year – Jakob Bak, Co-founder, Chief Technical Officer, Adform

Jakob Bak has been a strategic part of the ad tech ecosystem since the dawn of the 21st century. As a founder of one of the fastest developing independent ad tech companies, Jakob has led Adform to its success today serving as Chief Technical Officer for 16 years.

As one of the leading technology architects of the platform, alongside co-founders Gustav Mellentin (who serves as Chief Executive Officer) and Stefan Juricic (who serves as Chief Product Officer), Bak developed his long-standing expertise working with ad serving, web analytics, and business intelligence. He drives the development of the cutting-edge products and features, which has led Adform to be one of the world’s leading full stack solution, incorporating a world class DSP, Ad Server, and DMP.

The three founders have known each other since their student days, deciding to enter the advertising world as they saw it had the best foundation for automated software. Bak has helped steer the company from the original three in a moldy basement in Copenhagen to over 800 employees globally. The founders developed their contacts as their technology gained it's stellar reputation, which was followed by rapid acceleration, increased funding, expansion into new countries, and considerable success. A key to this achievement has been Bak’s belief in the value of the team they’ve built; this management approach enables the leaders to make the best decisions for the Adform family and the wider ad tech ecosystem.

During his many years in the ad tech ecosystem, Bak has also become heavily involved in shaping global advertising policies as a member of leading industry bodies and work groups – he is now one of the prominent experts on GDPR.

Before co-founding Adform, Bak was a management consultant at The Boston Consulting Group and worked at the Technical University of Denmark focussing on financial statistical modeling of bond prices. He holds a master's degree in engineering from the Technical University of Denmark.

Ad Tech Rising Stars – Jody Shilliday, Head of Advertising Solutions, Adform

Currently Head of Advertising Solutions at Adform, Jody Shilliday boasts an impressive background with over 10 years experience across social, marketing, and advertising. Shilliday has proven herself to be an integral part of the digital advertising ecosystem in this time, having been recognized at number 25 in The Drum’s annual countdown of the 50 Top Women in Digital under 30 in 2014. She is also heavily involved in the IAB UK Social Media Council, SMG Leadership Council, and a mentor for the IPA Creative Pioneers Apprenticeship Programme.

Notably, Shilliday helped to develop one of the first Facebook Alpha API providers while at TBG Digital, now part of Sprinklr. At this point, the only way to buy inventory was one advert at a time through Facebook’s own tools, so this early self-serve advertising platform provided agencies with an alternative option. This ability to scale, automate, and optimize ad campaigns drove the creation of new departments in media agencies globally. Before joining Adform, Shilliday headed up the social and programmatic teams at Fetch. Here she led both the trading desk and social media departments and worked with an impressive list of clients including Apple, Uber, Expedia, and

More recently, thanks to her hard work and continued industry efforts as Adform’s Global and Video Solutions Lead, the Media Rating Council (MRC) has granted Adform accreditation for its viewability measurement across not only desktop but also mobile web and app environments for both display and video ads. Following this achievement, Shilliday was promoted to oversee the global advertising solutions team. She is now responsible for the global ad serving, programmatic, creative, and publisher products at Adform.

Shilliday’s first role in marketing and advertising was with TGB Digital upon completion of a bachelor degree at Dalhousie University. She worked as Display and Affiliates Executive before moving to Starcom MediaVest Group, climbing the ladder to become Head of Paid Social, after only two years. While there, she led the development and management of the SMG Paid Social offering for Global, UK and EMEA clients. Here she was responsible for the design and implementation of integrated social advertising strategies and accountable for a portfolio of over 70 clients in more than 130 markets.
